Celebrating the life of

Frances Joan Distefano DeWitt

Passed away on April 03, 2024

Frances Joan Distefano DeWitt

Frances Joan DeWitt, 89, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Hospice Savannah surrounded by her loving family.

The Savannah native was born on March 16, 1935 to the late Josephine Lupo Crosby and John Distefano. Frances was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her faith was unwavering and carried her through the loss of her child and her husband. Like the true Italian she was, nothing brought Frances more joy than cooking large family meals for all to enjoy. She had a gift of making everyone feel welcome and loved. She will be greatly missed by so many.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin DeWitt; and a son, John Stephen DeWitt.

Frances leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Kirk DeWitt (Bartlette) and Andrew DeWitt (Sara);  a granddaughter, Frances DeWitt (Ford);  three grandsons, Connor, Andrew, and Baylor DeWitt; a brother, Timothy Crosby (Cindi); four sisters, Josephine Russo, Lucy Haviland (Ted), Mary Hayes (Jim), Patti Hicks (Bob); several nieces and nephews and her special group of friends, The Magnolias.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. A Rosary service will be held at the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 5:00 p.m.  A private burial will be held in Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest you consider making a donation in Frances's memory to Saint Vincent’s Academy, 207 East Liberty Street, Savannah, GA 31401 or Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
